The existing building was an old Beaux-Arts brick building
dating from the World War II era. Following a major site
planning effort we redesigned the single front elevation.
The existing façade was an ugly sheet metal oversized
structure that covered the end of the building, when trains
no longer entered the building. We recreated the Beaux-Arts
brick detailing and aesthetics from the opposite end of
the building. This intent was to bring the building back
into its own history, but with a fresh interpretation.
Due to cost considerations this recreation was done in
cement plaster. We designed new foundations and structure
for the new wall and then detailed it. |
